Namma Bengaluru, was built & ruled by Nadaprabhu Sri Kempegowda. We all have heard about it.

I want to share another story, which many of us don’t know. It’s about Smt. Lakshmi Devi (known as Lakshmamma / Smt. Tyagi Lakshmi Devi) the daughter in-law of Sri Kempegowda.

Kempegowda was building his fort and southern gate was collapsing every night. It was built several times, but next day morning it was found fallen.
He called several architects, well-versed builders and consulted experts but none helped with this matter. He then consulted astrologers (Jyothishi), who advised a sacrifice of a women!! And not just a women a pregnant women. Kempegowda, a noble person didn’t agree and never wanted to sacrifice a pregnant women & even dropped the idea of construction of the gate.

Suddenly, it was found that the gate hadn’t fallen!! But, nearby lay the body of Smt. Lakshmi Devi -pregnant daughter in-law of Kempegowda was found. She had sacrificed herself to appease the Gods.

It was because of her sacrifice, the empire grew and has become progressed.

A distraught Kempegowda is said to have built a temple in Lakshmamma’ s name.
This temple is in Koramangala, and a statue in Koramangala 8th Block.
